Curtis Tarr Papers

Scope and Contents This collection consists of the personal papers of Curtis Tarr, the twelfth president of Lawrence University. The papers are comprehensive, including a daily journal that Tarr maintained from 1964 to 1989 and correspondence sent and received from 1941 to 1997. Drawings in pen by Tarr as well as other writings are also included.

Curtis Tarr Presidential Papers

Scope and Contents This collection is composed of the papers of Curtis Tarr, President of Lawrence University from 1963 to 1969. The collection primarily documents Tarr's presidency from his selection through his departure, though some articles related to his work after leaving Lawrence are included. Materials include articles and biographical information, photographs, calendars, correspondence sent and received, documentation of his installation, and his speeches and writings.

Daisey Palmer Scrapbook

Scope and Contents This scrapbook was created by Daisey Palmer, who graduated with a diploma in Home Economics from Milwaukee-Downer College in 1908. It includes photographs, Commencement programs, newspaper clippings, letters and cards, and written text.

Daniel J. Taylor Papers

Scope and Contents This collection contains papers documenting the research and teaching activities of Daniel J. Taylor, professor of classics at Lawrence University from 1974 to 2007 and alumnus of the class of 1963. Materials include correspondence, lectures and course materials, publications, speeches, photographs, newspaper clippings, and audio and video recordings. Some materials documenting Taylor's years as a student at Lawrence are also included.

David Burrows Papers

Scope and Contents This collection consists of papers created by David Burrows, provost and dean of the faculty at Lawrence University from 2005 to 2017. It includes primarily reprints of publications, conference papers, and other writings on cognitive psychology, higher education administration, and liberal education. Papers date from 1969 to 2018.

Dean Earl Smith Photograph Album

Scope and Contents This photograph album was created by Dean Earl Smith, a student at Lawrence from the fall of 1910 to the spring of 1912. It contains photographs of the Lawrence campus, student groups and individuals, members of the Beta Sigma Phi chapter, locations in and around Appleton, and other scenic images from around the state of Wisconsin. Also included are images of President Taft visiting Appleton on October 26, 1911.

Dean of Men, Dean of Women, and Dean of Students Records

Scope and Contents This collection includes records created by the Dean of Men, Dean of Women, and Dean of Students at Lawrence University. Records date from 1926 to 2005 and include correspondence, memoranda, and reports pertaining to the administration of student affairs. Dear Family: Letters home written by Gail Carolyn Outland

Scope and Contents In late August 1949, after graduating from Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Arts, Gail Carolyn Outland was on her way to France to teach English. She had been appointed to serve as an English assistant in the girls’ high school of Lavaur, a small city in the south of France. These are the letters she wrote home about her year in France. Letters were transcribed and edited by her husband, John Nothnagle, in 2007.
